HEIDELBERG, Germany – Heidelberg Materials has launched its sixth edition of its Quarry Life Award competition; a program that recognizes pitches for sustainable quarry management solutions across 15 countries, with prize totals of roughly $442,000 CAD.

The program was introduced in 2011 and has generated more than 450 innovative project ideas since its inception. In partnership with organizations such as BirdLife International, Heidelberg Materials aims use this competition to raise awareness of the biodiversity solutions associated with extraction sites and processes and introduce better practices for quarry management.

Winning projects will be implemented across Heidelberg Materials’ quarries from January to September of 2025. A maximum of six project ideas per country, from both the “research” and “community” streams, will be selected as finalists across the 15 participating countries.

Canada and the U.S. are included as joint participants under the “North America” category, with other eligible countries including the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Turkey, Egypt, Tanzania, Morocco, Indonesia, Australia, Kazakhstan and Italy.
