New
generation Terex ADTs
Three
new Generation 7 articulated dumptrucks from the Terex Construction
unit of Terex Corporation offer new Tier 2 certified diesel engines
and numerous design enhancements for improved performance and reduced
operating costs. The TA25 and TA27 haulers now employ Cummins QSC 8.3
and QSL 9 engines, respectively. The TA30 is powered by a Cummins QSM
11. The gross hp of the TA25 and TA27 has been boosted from 260 to 280/330
hp while the TA30 power has been increased by 50 hp to 350 hp. The 6-cylinder,
in-line, water-cooled, turbocharged and aftercooled engine are electronically
managed and incorporate the Cummins Full Authority Fuel System for better
fuel economy and more torque.
According to Terex, the TA25, TA27 and
TA30 engines now have 500 hour maintenance intervals instead of 250
and 2,000 hour filter and oil change intervals which help maximize machine
uptime. The engines also have an increased service life to overhaul:
10,000 hours for the QSC 8.3, 12,000 hours for the QSL 9 and 14,000
hours for the QSM 11.
Both TA27 and TA30 run with new rotational
pressure compensated piston design transmissions, the 260 RPC and the
310 RPC, respectively. The automatic six-speed RPC transmissions with
manual override provide smooth gear changes and react accurately to
changing load demands. The TA25 is driven by the standard 210 six-speed
fully automatic transmission with manual override. All three transmissions
have an on-demand, hydraulically-driven transmission cooler. Automatic
limited slip differentials in each axle provide better traction, according
to the manufacturer.
Each of the Generation 7 articulated
haul trucks has new, wider heavy-duty frames with rectangular box-section
design. The new models all have hydraulically-actuated braking systems
with twin callipers per wheel providing 50 per cent more friction surface
area for improved braking capabilities.
The TA25 has a net weight of 20 870 kg
and a maximum payload capacity of 23 000 kg for a gross vehicle weight
of 43 870 kg. Its heaped capacity is 13.5 m3.
The TA27 has a net weight of 21 900 kg
and a payload of 25 000 kg for an operating weight of 46 900 kg. The
heaped capacity is 15.5 m3. The net weight of the TA30 is 22 420 kg
with a payload capacity of 28 000 kg for a total operating weight of
50 420 kg. Its heaped capacity is 17.5 m3.
The Generation 7 haulers also feature
new more spacious cabs for improved operator comfort and efficiency.

Rigid
frame haulers added to Komatsu lineup
Two
new Dash 7 series off-highway trucks, the HD465-7 and the HD-605-7,
have been introduced by Komatsu Canada for large construction and quarry
applications. The HD465-7 is a 55-tonne payload capacity rig powered
by a 715 hp Komatsu SAA6D170E-3 Tier 2 compliant turbocharged engine.
The hauler is driven with a Komatsu-designed seven speed transmission
featuring K-Atomics technology (Komatsu Advanced Transmission with Optimum
Modulation Control System) that is claimed to deliver smoother shifting,
improved operator comfort and a longer life cycle for drive train components.
The 99 090 kg HD465-7 also incorporates
a new airtight, fully hydraulic front brake system designed to minimize
maintenance issues such as freezing and debris in the brake lines while
increasing brake performance response time. The new two-door, walk-through
cab is set on viscous damping mounts that reduce vibration and noise.
The wide, spacious SUV-style interior features a standard AC/heater/defrost
system, inclined dashboard, tilt steering and an AM/FM radio. The hydraulic
steering system requires light effort, even at low engine rpm.
Among the numerous safety features are
multiple braking systems and an automatic emergency steering system.
A large automatic retarder enables the operator to select the maximum
safe operating speed on downhill travel while fully loaded. A rock deflector
also extends from the bed of the truck, overhanging the cab for additional
protection. 
The HD465-7 shares parts with the WA600-1
wheel loader and the PC1100-6 excavator for improved parts inventory
management. Oil changes intervals have been increased from 250 to 500
hours help maximize truck availability.
Komatsu Canada's HD-605-7 is the quarry
version of the HD465-7. This 110 131 kg model has been modified to carry
more weight with a 17 per cent larger body, yet retain the speed and
manoeuvrability of the smaller trucks. At 70.3 km/h, the truck boasts
the fastest travel speed in its class, according to the manufacturer.
The HD605-7 shares most of the same Komatsu
designed and manufactured components used for the HD465-7 including
the 715 fwhp engine, K-Atomics seven-speed planetary transmission, torque

Volvo
launches new EC160B excavator
Volvo
Construction Equipment has introduced the Volvo EC160B excavator, the
latest addition to its hydraulic excavator product line. The B-series
Volvo excavators are a new generation of machines designed and engineered
to provide more efficient power, productivity, and improved operator
comfort.
The new Volvo EC160B excavator offers
a host of additional standard features and options, such as state-of-the-art
hydraulics, operator cab enhancements including automatic temperature
control, improved visibility and improved serviceability features. It
also features a reconfigured electronic system, called Contronics and
Advanced Mode Control System, for a more efficient balance of available
engine power and hydraulic output.
The Volvo EC160B has an operating weight
of 16,480 to 18,760 kg, a bucket capacity of .77 m to 1.17 m3, maximum
digging reach at ground level of 8.8 m and a maximum digging depth of
6.0 m.
A low-emission Volvo 6-cylinder D6D engine
with charged air cooler powers the new model. The engine is precisely
matched to hydraulic system components for more power and control. This
unique system also maximizes performance levels, provides high fuel
efficiencies and fully complies with EPA Tier 2 and EU Step 2 emission
standards, according to the manufacturer.
Volvo Construction Equipment's B-series
excavators have a hydraulic system designed with four power modes that
respond automatically to the operator's joystick movements and application
requirements.
The EC160B's ergonomically-designed cab
includes seat and joystick control consoles that can be adjusted independently
to conform to individual operators' requirements. The cab also has an
automatic electronic climate control system. An enlarged window area
with no crossbar and parallel working wipers provide improved visibility
and increased operating safety.
Extended service intervals, lower running
costs, and power service tools such as Service Contronic, MATRIS and
VCADS Pro (Volvo Computer Aided Diagnostic System Professional) enhance
productivity. Service Contronic is a portable handheld unit that minimizes
the time spent on trouble-shooting for faults. All operational data
are presented in the machine tracking system (MATRIS) providing all-fault
tracking information and service requirements. The VCADS Pro allows
the machine functions to be tested and changed to specific working or

Komatsu's
unveils new flagship excavator
The
651 hp, 114 090 kg PC1250LC-7 has been introduced by Komatsu Canada,
replacing the PC1100LC-6 as the company's flagship excavator for the
quarrying, construction and mining markets.
The PC1250's Komatsu SAA6D170E-3 engine
increases hourly production by up to seven per cent over the PC1100LC-6.
The engine features an electronic controller and governor that fully
complies with Tier 2 air quality regulations. The new model incorporates
Komatsu's patented OLSS open-centre, load-sensing and engine speed-sensing
hydraulic system with four variable capacity pumps designed to optimize
the machine's speed and operating flexibility.
Two working modes, plus a heavy lift
circuit allow the operator to match machine speed and power to the job.
A unique two-mode boom setting allows the operator to electronically
select a smooth mode for fine work and a power mode for heavy-duty applications.
Engine oil and filter change intervals
have been increased from 250 to 500 hours and the replacement interval
for the hydraulic oil has been extended to 5,000 hours. In addition,
the excavator is equipped with a new wiring harness, DT electrical-type
connectors and heat proof covering to increase the reliability and durability
of the machine.
Komatsu is offering the PC1250 in five
different configurations. The regular machine features the standard
6.40 track frame and 9.11 m GP boom and three different arm lengths
for most general excavating requirements. For additional flotation or
where maximum craning ability is needed, the PC1250 is available with
the 7.37 m track frame and the 9.11 GP boom.
High production top loading off-highway
trucks can be accomplished with the PC1250SP-7 which has a standard
track frame and a 7.78 m reinforced boom and a reinforced 3.36 m arm.
The machine can also be supplied as a material handler with options
such as 16.7 m through 21.3 m material handling fronts, clamshells,
grapples, etc.
Finally, the PC1250-7 can be configured
as a loading shovel with the standard length track frame, 5.64 m boom
and 4.11 m arm to load dump trucks at ground level. www.komatsu.ca
Deere's
new 80C excavator provides power, versatility for small jobs
With
maximum power in a small package, the newest member of Deere's C-Series
excavator line„the 8-tonne 80C„is built to handle a wide variety of
jobs with ease.
The 52-hp machine features Deere's exclusive
Powerwize II engine/hydraulic system, which senses when additional power
is needed and delivers it, as well as balancing hydraulic pressure and
flow to ensure hydraulic functions are smooth. The Powerwize II system
enables multi-function operation, minimizes fuel consumption and maximizes
engine output. The 80C has a newly designed cab featuring a state-of-the-art
climate control system with an automatic, high-capacity blend-air system,
multiple vents and an oversized smoke-tinted glass sunroof hatch that
opens for maximum fresh air flow. The seat is cloth covered and fully
adjustable, including the lumbar support. Lever efforts have been reduced
ten per cent, and all controls are within easy reach. Additional operator-convenience
features include a 12-volt cell phone jack, a beverage cooler and an
oversized cup holder. 
The 80C offers numerous options for improved
performance. Key among these is the off-set boom option, which enables
the operator to hydraulically move the boom from the right side of the
machine to the left side without re-positioning the machine. This feature
allows excavation around three sides of an obstruction while keeping
the machine in the same spot, which helps get the job done faster while
reducing operator fatigue.
The 80C also features an integral backfilling
blade that is a part of the machine's chassis and takes full advantage
of the 80C's 5500 kg of drawbar pull. In addition to backfilling, the
blade is well suited for landscaping, fine grading and cutting sidewalks
